Parents and Community Members Needed for Title I Planning Committee

 By Melissa Davis

Every January, districts around the state begin planning and budgeting for the upcoming school year. Part of this planning includes writing the grant for the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (sometimes referred to as “Title I”). This federally funded grant provides schools with monies to address student achievement, professional development and enrichment in our schools. At the Hermon School Department, this funding is used to create and support critical interventions at the Patricia A. Duran School. Members of the Title I planning committee will analyze the needs of the individual schools, and develop a plan that uses the funds to support educational best practices. It is critical that not only educators and administrators serve on this planning committee, but that parents and community members have a role in the application’s creation. The unique perspectives of all constituents help the district create an application and plan that best supports student success.

If you are interested in serving on the Title I Planning Committee, the first meeting will be on March 23, 2020 from 4:00-5:00 pm in the Hermon School Department Central Office conference room. Additional meetings will be planned and posted as necessary. Please contact Melissa Davis at melissa.davis@schools.hermon.net for additional information.
