Guidance Counselor – Hermon High School

7th Grade Math Teacher - Hermon Middle School
Candidates must possess or be eligible for Maine Department of Education Teacher certification [K-8 endorsement with math concentration preferred or 7-12 math] and Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) certification.
Job Goal:
To help each pupil develop competence in basic mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems; and to encourage pupils to develop their special talents in the field of mathematics.
Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Teaches courses in mathematics to secondary pupils using the course of study adopted by the Hermon School Committee and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content.
  2. Instructs pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
  3. Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing discovery and laboratory learning methods.
  4. Demonstrates mathematical concepts using models, chalkboard, overhead projector, calculators, computers, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids.
  5. Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
  6. Designs learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world.
  7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
  8. Evaluates each pupil’s progress in mathematical knowledge and skills.
  9. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintains required inventory records.
  10. Communicates with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching mathematics and with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual pupil’s progress.
  11. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
  12. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
  13. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
  14. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematics teams and participates in faculty committees.
  15. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and in self-selected professional growth activities.
  16. Will be a clear and effective communicator in both the written and spoken word.

Library Media Center Ed Tech - Hermon High School
Candidates must possess or be eligible for Maine Department
of Education Teacher Educational Technician Authorization and

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Process and maintain student accounts.
  • Provide Tier I technical support to students and faculty.
  • Assist students and faculty with locating information.
  • Help students and faculty locate print and non-print resources.
  • Process new materials and equipment.
  • Stock or shelve items.
  • Prepare books for binding.
  • Check books in and out using a computer system.
  • • Maintain records of overdue materials.
  • Supervise students in the library, ensure rules are being followed.
  • Check out equipment.
  • Provide assistance with library, classroom, and auditorium multimedia use.
  • Administer library programs as directed.
  • Handle interlibrary loan requests.
  • Code library materials.
  • Answer questions.
  • Refer students and teachers to the library-media director when appropriate.

  • Safety/Attendance Monitor - Hermon High School

    Performance Responsibilities:

    1. Assists in monitoring student attendance.
    2. Supervises intervention study halls.
    3. Presence in halls, lunch, before/after students arrive andgeneral areas.
    4. Classroom or study hall coverage for teachers as needed.

    6. Has the ability to work with students in a proactive and effective manner.
    7. Prior teaching or administrative experience preferred.
    8. Knowledge of Powerschool a plus.

    Custodian
    The Hermon School Department is seeking a full-time evening custodian to join our team. Hourly rate commensurate with experience

    Qualifications:

    • High School Diploma or Equivalent
    • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

    • Reports To: Maintenance Director and/or Building Administrator, Head Custodian.

    Performance Responsibilities:

    1. Empties all waste containers in the building and replaces liners as needed.
    2. Cleans all bathroom and locker room facilities and replenishes all soap and paper supplies.
    3. Vacuums all carpeted areas in building, including all hall runners and classroom rugs.
    4. Sweeps all tiled classrooms and damp-mops where needed.
    5. Sweeps all hallways and damp-mops where needed.
    6. Brings any supplies from storage areas as office requests them and puts in proper area.
    7. Clears all doorways and walks of snow and ice during stormy weather including weekends as required.
    8. Replaces any and all burned out lights in building where possible.
    9. Dusts and damp-mops all areas in the building that may require it daily.
    10. Buffs all tiled corridors in building daily.
    11. Reports any shortage of cleaning materials in area to immediate supervisor as soon as possible.
    12. Makes sure all doors and windows are closed and properly locked before leaving the building.
    13. Makes sure all alarm systems are turned on and are working properly before leaving building.
    14. Makes sure office area and other locked areas are securely locked before leaving building.
    15. May be assigned to work overtime hours, including weekends, for snow removal and to cover student/community activities.
    16. Complies with state and federal laws on storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
    17. Works cooperatively, respectfully, and in a supportive manner with all co-workers and other staff.
    18. Participates in professional growth activities in order to have the knowledge required to perform the job successfully.
    19. Such other duties as may be assigned by the Head Custodian and/or the Maintenance Supervisor.

    Bus Driver
    Full-time, school-year only position
    25-30 hours per week
    Morning and afternoon runs
    $17.50-$23.00 / hour

    Qualifications:

    • Clean driving record
    • State of Maine Department of Education CHRC approval
    • Class B Driver’s License with school bus endorsement
    • Must pass a physical exam and drug test

    The HSD will support the selected applicant with securing the bus driver’s license if needed.

    Food Services Substitutes

    The Hermon School Department is seeking Food Services Substitutes for the 2019-2020 school year who can work positively with staff, and students. Candidates should possess basic math skills, be able to lift up to 20 pounds, and stand on feet during the shift.
    Candidates must hold current CHRC authorization through State of Maine Department of Education.
    This is a substitute position and does not provide benefits.

    Substitutes
    The Hermon School Department is seeking substitute teachers for the 2020-2021 school year who have the ability to work positively with staff, and students. Candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills, and be dedicated to meeting the academic and social needs of each child.
    Candidates must hold current CHRC authorization through State of Maine Department of Education.
    This is a substitute position and does not provide benefits.
