Assistant Director of Special Services
The Hermon School Department is seeking an Assistant Director of Special Services

Title:Assistant Director of Special Services
Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education
  • Maine Department of Education 035/030 Certification and Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) approval.

Reports to:Director of Special Services
Job Goal: To provide assistance to the Director of Special Services
Work Year: 190 Days
Successful candidate will have the skills and abilities to:

  • Oversees K-12 Self Contained Programming - Including Administrate IEP meetings, provide SC staff training, conduct monthly staff team meetings, oversee program curriculum, technology resources, field trips, etc.
  • Administrate District IEP team meetings, complete accompanying paperwork, LD Document, Adverse Effect Form, etc.
  • Ensures compliance with Special Education paperwork produced by the Special Education personnel.
  • Coordinates ESY Program - Will need to be available as needed for ESY.
  • Track Restraint and Seclusion data and complete quarterly reports.
  • Assist with collecting Special Education Data.
  • Assist with Teacher Evaluation.
  • Monitor staff training needs.
  • Coordinates Safety Care and provides Safety Care Training to the district
  • Provides guidance to Special Education personnel and Principals regarding Special Education issues.
  • Participates in interviews when appropriate.
  • Coordinates Special Transportation.
  • Oversees Special Olympics, Swim/Gym, Swim program, etc.
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities determined by the Director of Special Services.

Self-contained Teacher - Hermon High School
A desirable candidate will demonstrate the following:

  • Experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities
  • Experience planning and teaching functional academics, social skills and life skills curriculum
  • Experience designing and implementing positive behavior intervention plans
  • Experience coordinating and supervising education technicians and managing multiple schedules of related services and job placements on and off school campus
  • Experience integrating technology into instruction to meet various student needs
  • Ability to administer standardized and curriculum-based assessments

  • Ability to conduct and oversee community outreach activities and relations, such as student job placements / work experience, Special Olympics events, and Vocational Rehabilitation service referrals

2020 – 2021 Openings

Custodian
The Hermon School Department is seeking a full-time evening custodian to join our team. Hourly rate commensurate with experience

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with students, staff, and the community.
  • Reports To: Maintenance Director and/or Building Administrator, Head Custodian.

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Empties all waste containers in the building and replaces liners as needed.
  2. Cleans all bathroom and locker room facilities and replenishes all soap and paper supplies.
  3. Vacuums all carpeted areas in building, including all hall runners and classroom rugs.
  4. Sweeps all tiled classrooms and damp-mops where needed.
  5. Sweeps all hallways and damp-mops where needed.
  6. Brings any supplies from storage areas as office requests them and puts in proper area.
  7. Clears all doorways and walks of snow and ice during stormy weather including weekends as required.
  8. Replaces any and all burned out lights in building where possible.
  9. Dusts and damp-mops all areas in the building that may require it daily.
  10. Buffs all tiled corridors in building daily.
  11. Reports any shortage of cleaning materials in area to immediate supervisor as soon as possible.
  12. Makes sure all doors and windows are closed and properly locked before leaving the building.
  13. Makes sure all alarm systems are turned on and are working properly before leaving building.
  14. Makes sure office area and other locked areas are securely locked before leaving building.
  15. May be assigned to work overtime hours, including weekends, for snow removal and to cover student/community activities.
  16. Complies with state and federal laws on storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
  17. Works cooperatively, respectfully, and in a supportive manner with all co-workers and other staff.
  18. Participates in professional growth activities in order to have the knowledge required to perform the job successfully.
  19. Such other duties as may be assigned by the Head Custodian and/or the Maintenance Supervisor.

Bus Driver

$17.50-$23.00 / hour

  • Class B Driver’s License with school bus endorsement
  • Must pass a physical exam and drug test

The HSD will support the selected applicant with securing the bus driver’s license if needed.

Food Services Substitutes

The Hermon School Department is seeking Food Services Substitutes for the 2019-2020 school year who can work positively with staff, and students. Candidates should possess basic math skills, be able to lift up to 20 pounds, and stand on feet during the shift.
Candidates must hold current CHRC authorization through State of Maine Department of Education.
This is a substitute position and does not provide benefits.

The Hermon School Department is seeking substitute teachers for the 2020-2021 school year who have the ability to work positively with staff, and students. Candidates should possess strong oral and written communication skills, organizational and interpersonal skills, and be dedicated to meeting the academic and social needs of each child.
Candidates must hold current CHRC authorization through State of Maine Department of Education.
This is a substitute position and does not provide benefits.
